Corrosion
Metals suffer when exposed to a severe environment. This process is called corrosion .
Corrosion is disintegration of metals’ properties due to interactions with their environments.
Traditional methods of treating rust
• Many people think that painting rust and corrosion with regular paints or paints that contain a small amount
of epoxy ingredients is the best way to treat them. Up to ten layers of paint are applied in order to prevent
rust. Those who believed that this technique is the best way to combat rust have been proven wrong.
• Metals’ flexibility is the cause of this. It expands and contracts by the effect of heat. Due of the epoxy
components used in the paint, it is solid. Hence, regardless of the quantity of layers of paint, cracks result
when the metal expands without the paint expanding along with it. Rust develops beneath the paint
when oxygen and moisture enter these cracks and contact the metal body.
• The underlying issue is that paint starts to blister and peel off just after rust has had enough time to cover
the entire metal body. The real risk of utilising traditional coatings is this.
• Experts in the chemical industry have developed a practical and
effective method for protect metals from corrosion, which involves
coating the solid metal with inhibitors by dipping it and heating to
450⁰ C by using highly pure zinc. Even while this approach had
already achieved impressive results, it still had several issues:
1-it impossible to transfer any metal to the laboratory.
2. The high cost.
3. Waste of time.
• Given that this company has more than 70 years of experience in the chemical
industries, this was the true contribution made by the experts of the French COLORIAD
company in bringing about an unheard-of technological transfer from any company in
the world. They have developed cold galvanising technology by using a coating that is
applied using conventional techniques (porch – roller – spray gun….etc.).
